Hate List by Jennifer Brown is the story of Valerie Leftman, a senior who is just returning to school 5 months after a deadly school shooting. Her boyfriend was the gunman, and he used their “hate list” to target his victims. Valerie, unaware of her boyfriend’s intentions, did everything she could to stop the shooting once it had started, including jumping in front of the bullet meant for someone else. Although Valerie was credited by some as a hero for stopping the shooting, others blamed her for her role in creating the list.
This novel is a must read! Valerie’s journey toward redemption is not easy, but it shows us the importance of forgiveness – for yourself and for others.
